It’s hard to believe we are already heading into the holiday season here in Southwest Florida. Before things get too busy, I wanted to share a few of my favorite local events that showcase why living here is so awesome this time of year.
These are the traditions that make our area feel like home, whether you have lived here for years or you are just starting to explore Southwest Florida.
1. Edison and Ford Holiday Nights in Fort Myers. Every year from November 28 through January 4, the historic winter estates of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford along the Caloosahatchee River are covered in thousands of lights.
The decorations, river views, and old Florida charm make it feel like stepping back in time. If you have never been, it is worth experiencing at least once, especially if you want a quiet evening walk with family or friends.
2. Holiday Boat Parades from Marco Island to Fort Myers Beach. Holiday boat parades are one of our most loved traditions.. From Marco Island to Cape Coral and Fort Myers Beach, you will see boats covered in lights, decorations, and holiday music cruising through the waterways. People line the roads, seawalls, and bridges to watch and cheer them on.
One of my favorites is the Fort Myers Beach Boat Parade, which takes place on December 6 and leaves from Salty Sam’s Marina. If you want something that truly feels like a Southwest Florida holiday, this is it.
3. Holiday Lights at Lakes Regional Park. From December 12 through December 30, Lakes Regional Park in Fort Myers turns into a full holiday destination. The park is already a local favorite, but during this stretch, it truly transforms.
You will find light displays, a Christmas walk, and a small train that takes visitors through different holiday scenes. There are photo spots, food trucks, hot cocoa, and a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. If you have kids or guests visiting, this is an easy one to add to your plans.
4. Tree Lighting on Fifth Avenue in Naples. On December 5, downtown Naples hosts its annual Christmas tree lighting on Fifth Avenue. It is one of those classic local events everyone should experience at least once.
The street fills with people, the giant tree lights up, decorations line the area, and “snow” even falls from above. People dress up, restaurants stay busy, and the whole street feels festive and lively. With plenty of great food and drinks, it makes for a fun night out.
5. Victoria Park Lights in North Naples. All through December, the Victoria Park neighborhood in North Naples puts on one of the biggest holiday light displays in the area. Ten to twelve streets are lined with some of the most over-the-top Christmas decorations you will find anywhere.
People arrive in buses, golf carts, and even flatbed trailers full of kids. Music plays, cars move slowly through the neighborhood, and everyone is out enjoying the lights. Traffic can be a little heavy getting in, but once you are inside, it is absolutely worth it.
So that is my short list of holiday favorites here in Southwest Florida. There is not a lot of real estate talk today, just a reminder of why so many people love calling this area home.
That said, I am here and working through the holidays. If I can help you with any of your real estate needs, whether you are here in Southwest Florida or making a move from somewhere else in the country, please reach out at (239) 444-6100 or cory@thecorylauergroup.com. I’m here when you need me.
